"Strain" simply refers to where a kratom leaf was grown and how it was processed. Combined with the vein color, it's how enthusiasts tell one variety from another. Below is a plain-language guide to the vein colors and the most popular strains we carry. Character notes reflect how enthusiasts generally describe each variety — preference is personal, and the best way to find your favorite is to try a few.
Vein colors
- Red vein — harvested from the most mature leaves and dried with limited light. The most popular starting point and the broadest category.
- Green vein — picked at mid-maturity and dried indoors, giving the balanced, classic, everyday profile greens are known for.
- White vein — harvested from younger leaves, dried indoors, with a brighter, crisper character.
- Yellow vein — produced through an extended drying and curing process that gives a smooth, mellow, golden-toned result.
Popular strains
Bali — One of the most established and recognizable varieties, grown from large, mature leaves across Indonesia. A reliable classic and a common first choice.
Maeng Da — A premium grade whose name translates loosely as "pedigree," traditionally reserved for a grower's finest, most carefully selected leaf. Available in red, green, and white.
Borneo — Grown on the island of Borneo, where rich soil and constant humidity produce some of the largest, most mature leaves available.
Green Malay — From the dense forests of Malaysia, prized for its consistency and well-rounded character.
Thai — Traces its lineage to Thailand, from hardy, fast-growing trees.
Horned — Named for the distinctive horn-like points along the leaf edges, hand-selected at harvest.
Bentuangie — A fermented red variety, aged before drying for a deep, distinctive character.

Which should I choose?
